POPULAR TRAILER (STUDIO - INTERVIEW) NEWS SHOW Script & Idea: Joe Wengert This Draft: 11-1-08 INT. NEWSROOM ANCHOR The Iron Man trailer was one of the most popular trailers of last summer, so it's no surprise that Movie blogs are buzzing today following the announcement by executives at Paramount Pictures announced that they'll be adapting one of the most popular trailers of last summer-- the Iron Man trailer-- into a feature length motion picture. The trailer for "Iron Man" plays. ANCHOR (CONT'D) Here to fill us in on all of the details is Entertainment Reporter Rory Covey. Rory, some mixed reactions out there about this news. SPLIT SCREEN: With Rory, a hip, younger reporter. RORY Well, the Iron Man trailer is near and dear to a lot of fan's hearts. Some of them have watched it online dozens of times, they've blogged about it, there's even some parodies of it up on youtube. It was a huge hit. These fans don't want the trailer they love so much to be ruined by a big-budget Hollywood treatment. ANCHOR Why are they so concerned? RORY Well, it's going to take a lot to make the characters, action, and story that work in a thirty second format also work when stretched out to 80 minutes. ANCHOR But a lot of fans are looking forward to the movie? RORY Yes. The trailer tells an amazing story. A cocksure billionaire industrialist and inventor, is kidnapped but he turns on his captors by designing an amazing mechanized suit of armor. He goes on to lead a double life as a crime fighter, ultimately foiling a major plot and becoming a hero to the world. ANCHOR Wow. And that same story will be told in the movie as well. RORY Yes. The studio says it will be very careful that everything that makes the trailer so well-loved is incorporated into the movie adaptation, right down to using actual lines from the trailer. ANCHOR Like TK LINE FROM TRAILER. RORY Oh yes, I'm sure that will be in there. And they're being very careful about casting. Robert Downey Jr. is on board to reprise his role as Tony Stark. ANCHOR That must be a relief to fans. RORY Yes, I think there would have been a real outcry if they had tried to cast someone else. ANCHOR But bottom line, is there really a market for this movie? People have already seen the trailer. They know how the story goes. Why see the movie? RORY Well, the movie will offer a different experience than the trailer. There will be a lot of breathing room between the big moments of the story that we know from the trailer, time to really explore the characters. Who knows what they'll do in between the point where he breaks out of the lab in the suit and the point where he flies along with the jets. Maybe ANCHOR All right, well, we'll see how it does. Rory Covey, thanks for being with us. RORY My pleasure. ANCHOR Next up... ALTERNATE ------------------- RORY The filmmakers plan to expand that fast montage of very short shots seen in the trailer into distinct, full length scenes. Director John Favreau is using the trailer as his blueprint, if you will, in developing this story. Although he did state in a recent interview that additional characters will be introduced in the movie. RORY (CONT'D) I think so. John Favreau is very interested in keeping the Iron Man trailer fans happy. He says he is going to stay really true to the original vision. RORY (V.O.) (CONT'D) This trailer also makes really great use of music. We can only assume that the full soundtrack will be as exciting. And if they're smart, they'll use the "Iron Man" song in the full movie as well. And in case you were wondering, they are NOT changing the title. RORY (CONT'D) I think so. They've got a lot of buzz going for them right now and they know their fan base...word around Hollywood is that Iron Man will feature six to eight very exciting, entirely new trailers to be shown directly before the movie.
