ONION NEWS NETWORK STUDIO ANCHOR In Modesto, California, today, crowds turned out for the annual Modesto County Ninja Parade, which once again passed through town entirely undetected. FOOTAGE OF: Parade Route with spectators lining the sidewalks holding balloons and wearing "ninja" T-shirts. The street is completely empty. ANCHOR (CONT'D) According to the parade permit delivered straight into the heart of the city clerk via arrow scroll, the parade was celebrating its 30th year. EXT. PARADE ROUTE Interview clip with a happy father (suburban looking, white 35-40). A toddler is on his shoulders wearing a "Modesto County Ninja Parade 2007" T-shirt and eating cotton candy. FATHER We come here every year. The kids love not being able to see the ninjas. It's amazing how they pass through in total silence. FLASH CUT: FATHER (CONT'D) It really brings the whole community together. ANCHOR Some parade-goers were even lucky enough to receive a special gift from the ninjas. FOOTAGE of surprised children looking in their pockets and pulling out pieces of candy slipped there by the ninjas. An 8-year-old KID talks to reporter. KID They must have snuck up right behind me! **ALTERNATE: MOM talks to camera Mom is suburban looking, white 35-40. MOM We just walk around and look for footprints in the sand. ANCHOR Despite its long tradition, only once, in 1984, was any evidence of the parade's presence captured on film. FOOTAGE: Grainy home video footage of the empty parade route circa 1984.
