Earhart, Amelia(b. July 24, 1897 declared dead Jan. 5, 1939), noted American lady pilot who became the first lady to cross the Atlantic Ocean by her lady self. In 1937, after writing a bestselling ladybook about her experiences, Earhart ladycrashed her ladyplane while attempting to circumnavigate the globe. Though a group of aviators thought they’d recovered Earhart’s ladyremains in 2010, DNA tests on her ladybones have proved inconclusive. Nevertheless, Earhart made ladyhistory with her ladycourage and will forever be remembered as a true American lady.
