More students than ever are getting summer internships at top companies where they hope to make connections and learn career skills. Here are the most sought-after internships for college undergraduates:

  • Hewlett-Packard: Offers salary competitive with unpaid internships at other Fortune 500 companies
  • The Shippensburg News-Chronicle: Graduates of the Pennsylvania regional newspaper’s internship program are awarded a fourth line on their résumé in between a job at their school and a better internship
  • Hollywood University Pro $creenwriting Workshop: This $8,500, 10-day workshop in directing and screenwriting has produced almost all of the industry’s top writer-directors, including Alfonso Cuarón, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Christopher Nolan
  • The Humane Society: Upon successful completion of their internship, students will be given the chance to visit a kennel and euthanize a cat or dog of their choice
  • Dianne Wiest: Participants in this summer program are fully immersed in Dianne Wiest’s day-to-day activities, with the prospect of earning a full-time position as the Academy Award–winning actress at the end of the term
